Emmy Tastic!

Monday night saw the 66th annual Emmy Awards! We love watching the stars sashay their way down the red carpet and look forward to checking out who’s wearing what?! This years surprise colour though was red, red dresses on a red carpet. Not normally such a popular choice in colour but this year it stole the show! Here’s our pick of our fav rouge frocks!

Red seems to be the hot colour for Autumn/Winter 2014 so make sure you get some involved in your wardrobes this year!

Looking like a woman half her age was Julia Roberts in a stunning Elie Saab dress. Julia opted for a short number but with legs like hers, why not?!

A woman I’m always championing is Gwen Stefani and her Emmy outfit was no exception. She rocked the red carpet in Atelier Versace. A skirt and top combo that showed off her stunning figure, only a few months after giving birth to youngest son, Apollo. This Versace number was covered in tiny Swarovski crystals and showed just enough cleavage to keep the look sexy but cool.

Autumn/Winter14 Trends

We have been blessed with so much sun this year that I am sad thinking about the return to cold and rainy days. The only thought getting me through this is the promise of exciting AW14 style, so here is a little selection of our key trends for AW14.

Sixties mod is in. Pair a short sixties style dress with knee highs as seen at Nicolas Ghesquiere’s first show for Louis Vuitton which also featured structured A-line shifts and polo necks, seen below:
60s mod Louis vuitton

Search vintage stores, such as Beyond Retro (www.beyondretro.com) for an original piece or try Atom Retro (www.atomretro.com) where I found some great dresses including this one below:
atom retro darling_meya_dress6

Grey has never been so chic. It was on the catwalk for Christopher Kane and Armani and it is this season’s neutral. You can add some zing to this trend with red lippy to brighten up a dull day.
Armani mainaw14 grey
Above: Armani’s AW14 show.

I adore this look from the Mango AW14 lookbook (www.mango.com), pale denim boyfriend jeans and oversized grey coat, below:

Fairytale dresses and winter florals are also strong. Valentino’s dreamy AW14 show was full of perfect pieces. I think I might be in love with them all, see below:
Valentino RF14 1495

On the highstreet Mango again has a great selection of floaty feminine maxi dresses, featuring lace and floral prints, see below:

The accessory of the season has to be a novelty bag. There are so many available, from the Moschino fast food collection, to Givenchy Antigona Bambi tote; there is sure to be something to tickle your taste.

Teddy fleeces are also going to be popular. The 1.3 Phillip Lim fleece biker jacket is still a key piece, see below:

Whistles are also going to be delivering on this trend with some amazing fleece coats (see above), perfect for when that change in weather makes it’s inevitable appearance.

Treasure Island

Ibiza, commonly known as the White Isle or La Isla Blanca, is perhaps the most diverse and beautiful of all the Balearic islands. With its long sandy beaches, crystal blue waters, cool beats, crazy parties and oh my goodness – the fashion – What is not to love?!

I have been lucky enough to make two trips already this summer and I always come back inspired with bohemian style ideas, convinced I will wear nothing but my denim cutoffs, floaty kaftans and beads ever again. You can find Ibicencan treasure in the markets and beach boutiques all across the island, so make like a magpie and keep your eye open for jewels and delightful designs whilst on the White Isle.

Here is my pick of some of the coolest accessories available on the island, and if you can’t make it to the magical isle yourself, we’ve put in some handy online links to help you update your wardrobe for a perfect boho Balearic vibe.

Sienna Bloom is a jewellery designer living in Ibiza. All her creations are designed locally and then produced in mainland Spain. Designs are inspired by nature and spiritual symbolism, perfect to layer up with a stack of friendship bands and beads galore.

If you can’t make it to the island to shop at some of the many boutiques which stock her you can shop online here: http://shop.white-ibiza.com/sienna-bloom

Firm Ibicencan favourite, Bex Rox, latest collection doesn’t fail to disappoint.  In fact most of her latest Afrika collection is sold out. Add your name to the waiting list now! Bex was raised on the Island but is now based in Notting Hill.  I adore the bright friendship bands and Frida collars, statement pieces with an ethnic edge.

You can shop online at: http://www.bexrox.com and also at Selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols and select concept multi brand stores across the globe.

World Family is a family run business that creates the most amazing collection of bags and accessories.  Try here for tasselled leather bags with beautiful silver embellishment from Afghanistan or clutch bags embroidered in Chang Mai and then adorned further with beads and jewels. The collection is a treasure trove of colours and wondrous designs. I am seriously lusting over it all. You can shop online at: http://www.worldfamilyibiza.com/

chiang mai Kuchi bag

Talking of bags, accessories designer Sophie Anderson has a huge following in Ibiza and is stocked in boutiques across the island. I’m lucky enough to be the proud owner of a Marilu crocheted clutch, (Sunday Times style featured it in their hot list last month) and she is now stocked in Browns, Fenwicks, Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Net-A-Porter. Born in Kuwait and raised in Oman, Sophie’s childhood exposed her to a wealth of colour, materials and traditional skills. Her bags are perfect for beach through to evening cocktails or to bring a bit of tropical glamour to the city. More information can be found here: http://www.sophieanderson.net/

Ashalak has those killer boho ankle boots and fringed belts you have always been looking for. Created by Vicky and Virginia, Ashalak have bright and beautiful customized clothes for women.  Their dream is to “give fashion a soul”, says Vicky, born in Argentina but settled in Ibiza. Her partner Virginia, born in Navarre, says fashion “is a reflection of how you are and how you feel.” Shop online at: http://ashalak.com/

Boheme Kaftans are the perfect cover up for the Ibicencan shores or for a perfect summer look back home.  You can shop for them on Etsy.com or check out the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BohemeKaftans for more info.

Creator, Charlotte Kennedy, describes the collection as, “beachwear for the sunshine lovers across the globe. Live the life you dream & wear the dream you live.” I would like to wear these dream creations non stop so please London, keep this weather up so I can dress like my inner Ibicencan beach-bum everyday!

The ‘Uni’ Festival Must have!

Freshly back from my stint at this years Glastonbury Festival, (a vintage year in my humble opinion) I noticed how people are really upping their fashion game. Mud and rain aside, there’s nothing that will stop the festival fashionistas from strutting their stuff…even if it means wearing a UNITARD! YES, you heard correct…Unitards were all over Glastonbury this year. I spotted Sienna Miller and Rita Ora in some brightly coloured and graphic creations backstage at Pilton Farm. Whilst it doesn’t seem the most practical piece of clothing to wear when one is most likely spending a lot of time queuing for the nearest portaloo and there’s the obvious risk of the dreaded ‘camel toe’- get this look right and you’ll be looking festival fabulous!

Some festival-goers getting into the spirit of things!

If this is a trend you’d like to try, then here’s a little selection of our fav’s!

Another one from Asos but we’re loving the lilac brush stoke effect and this is currently half price in the sale at £19.

Motel Rocks green leaf Unitard £48.

Top Tip: If this is a trend you want to try always go up a size, that way you should avoid any unnecessary clinginess!

Good luck gang!

BTS’s Summer Essentials

As the sun starts to shine in all it’s glory, here’s what we will be wearing this season.

The pineapple is not just a popular item of kitsch style around the home (I am lusting after this Graham and Green lamp) but the spiky fruit is also a major fashion hit, it stands for all things summery, fruity and fun.
ImageImageImage
Clockwise from top left: Lamps by Graham and Green from £99, Jumpsuit by Joy £36, Pineapple Vest by Zara £19.99
Wear this pineapple jumpsuit over a plain T-shirt or vest, or a pineapple T-shirt with your favourite jeans for a zesty summer look.

My newest accessory addiction is wearing a tikka, traditionally worn as an indian wedding headpiece, perfect to add some boho charm to your look this summer. If like me you are a fringey, and were oh so grateful for the headband trend as it keeps your fringe in place, then you will also like a tikka!
I adore this Johnny Loves Rosie tikka, available from Asos for £22:
Image

I am obsessing over Emma Stone at the German premiere of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”, wearing a stunning Chanel dress from the French brand’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection. Image
Above: Emma Stone in my dream Chanel dress.

Everything is right about this dress and the length she wore it at is my new favourite skirt length. Slightly longer than midi, not quite maxy, saves a multitude of tripping up over hem sins.
Below is me (!) in a vintage skirt I have hemmed at the same length as Miss Emma Stone’s, sporting a home made tikka I fashioned from a bracelet, DIY styley.
Image

Hem a maxi skirt at the perfect length for you or try this skirt by Warehouse £20:
Image

We do love a good hat here at BTS HQ and for a summer take on the classic fedora or trilby try a pink, blush or nude colour for candy sunshine vibes.
Here’s me in another vintage find (excuse the goofy smile!):Image

Image
Above: Catarzi Blush Fedora £35.00 available at Asos.

Image
Above: Pink Fedora by River Island £22.

Jemma’s summer essential is the sleeveless jacket, a perfect transitional piece for spring to summer.  Jemma did another little DIY cheat and used a button through dress which was already hanging in her wardrobe, creating a look similar to the Haider Ackermann sleeveless jacket, although without £700 price tag!
Image
Above: Jemma in her sleeveless jacket at the My Secret Dressing Room Launch.

Image

Above: Sleeveless jacket by Haider Ackermann £700.

Like Jemma, try wearing a button front dress as a sleeveless jacket, this one is on sale at £28 by Asos, below:
Image

As a yummy Mummy to be, Jemma is loving the maternity dungaree short.  Wearing with tights and cardies when the sun isn’t quite as bright as we’d like, and when it is, with T’s and sandals. Plenty of room for the growing bump in there too!
Image
Above: Maternity Dungaree Shorts by Topshop £38.

The great thing about these summer essentials is you can wear them with pieces you already have, or maybe you even have some items you can tailor or re-work to create these looks. If you want some advice and to book a wardrobe revamp/ makeover, where we can help you style what you already have in your wardrobe then get in touch: info@bangtidystyling.com

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

Last Thursday saw the launch of ‘Fashion Targets Breast Cancer’, at London’s St.Pancras Renaissance Hotel. We were invited by our friend and event host, Deanne Oliver-Evans from Golden Brown Events and with it being such a worthy cause, we had to check it out!

We weren’t disappointed, drinks and canapés were being served in abundance, although I stuck to lemonade, (being 4 months pregnant and all that) Helen thoroughly enjoyed the wine! 😉

The entertainment was provided by an all-female dj line-up including Brydie Tong and Georgie Rogers which got everyone in the party mood. There were beauty stalls where you could have your make-up applied by a pro and glamorous hair courtesy of GHD. ‘Lucy in Disguise’, ‘Velvet Johnstone’ and ‘Superga’, were just a few of the fashion brands in attendance to show their support and support people did. Girls and boys couldn’t get their hand’s on the raffle tickets quick enough, hardly surprising considering some of the prizes that were on offer.. Alexander McQueen handbag anyone?! Or maybe you’re more of a Mulberry handbag girl? With so many fantastic goodies up for grabs (including a BangTidyStyling session with myself and Helen) everyone gathered round to see if they held a lucky winning ticket!

Here’s a few of the familiar faces that were in attendance:

The Time Has Come To…. Felderize!

A few seasons ago Zara Martin was seen sashaying around London Fashion Week with a metallic rucksack and I needed to know where it was from.  Felder Felder was the label and ever since I have been hooked. It was wasn’t just the metallic accessories and dresses that caught my magpie eye. It was the flattering shapes and carefully put together colour pallettes that give a girly skater dress a grown up sex appeal.

Below: previous collections and ‘that’ backpack:

Founded in 2006, the identical twin designers, Annette and Daniela, studied at Central Saint Martin’s and decided to set up their label in the UK as oppose to their native Germany.  They site London as their home, making many friends within the British industry, who they initially had shown small collections too.  A year later a full catwalk collection was born.

Image

Above: Felder Felder themselves!

They have been on schedule at London Fashion Week for the past few years, and we at Bang Tidy Styling were so excited to be personally invited by Annette to go and see the AW14 show three days ago.

Fabulous quilted skirts and the signature skater dress kept the collection young. The mohair cut outs and crops, vampy laser cut leather with organza underneath and feather details kept it fresh. Ladylike pencil skirts and grown up jackets in muted khaki tones mixed with the quilted brights made for a perfectly confident collection.

Stocked in stores such as Liberty and Browns Focus, and a growing number around the world, with celebrity fans such as Rihanna and Gwyneth Paltrow, it is no wonder their designs are growing even more popular than ever.

Felder Felder describe their style as “Modern, sexy and cool.” Never was a truer word spoken.  Who wouldn’t want to be Felderized?!

Hope you have all enjoyed LFW as much as we have.

Sugar Baby Love

It’s been quite some time since our last blog (sorry) but things have been pretty manic for us at BangTidyStyling HQ. We’ve also got an additional team member on board, the lovely Annelise Buesnel, so look out for future posts from this talented lady!

So Valentine ’s Day is looming and I know it’s something my friends and I have split opinions on, but not many people can say they dislike receiving gifts. Can we??!

If the special one is stuck for ideas for you, maybe forward this blog over to them so you’ve subtlety hinted/nudged them in the right direction.

Here’s a little selection of ideas to get inspired by!

Jewellery is always a winner as long as you know your partners taste Lulu’s Estate Jewellery is well worth checking out for one off vintage pieces from Cartier to Rolex. We love these gold and green tourmaline and diamond earrings and they could be yours, for a blow the budget cost of £350!
